The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which offers vital meals to numerous people in need, has recently encountered significant reductions and scrutiny. This program acts as a crucial support for over 20 million young and disadvantaged individuals in America.
Starting November 1, 2025
More than 42 million Americans are facing a complete cutoff of their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
This cutoff marks the first time in the program’s sixty-year history that SNAP payments will not be distributed, affecting roughly 12% of the U.S. population, including millions of children, elderly and adults in low-income households.
The loss of SNAP benefits is expected to increase pressure on food banks and state social services, with many states declaring emergencies and exploring temporary assistance options, though federal rules limit their ability to fill the gap.
In early March, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said it was cutting more than $1 billion in funding for the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement and the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement programs for 2025. The money was designed to pay farmers to provide food to schools and food banks, giving a boost to local producers while giving fresh options to children and communities.
Then, food banks were hit with another blow when they were informed that scheduled deliveries of food through the USDA's Emergency Food Assistance Program were being halted or cut back.
The Bike and Paddle Magazine and Club is doing its part to raise awareness about this crisis by assisting FOOD BANKS in continuing to provide food assistance to those in need.

We will be organizing COMMUNITY FOOD BANK bike rides throughout our coverage area and membership. There are no participation fees; simply bring any food items you deem appropriate to each ride. We will handle the delivery.
To aid in the marketing and advertising of the events (which will be promoted year-round), we have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover costs since we don't accept advertising for the events. Any contribution is appreciated, thank you!
