The bicycle is the universal symbol for health, fitness, and non-polluting alternative transportation. However, there’s an overwhelming perception that a bicycle is a toy, not a tool, that needs to be overcome. Over 140 million make cycling part of their daily lives, but only a small fraction ride for transportation. Further, there are lots of groups out there promoting recreational cycling: most bike shops, your local parks-and-rec department, and mountain-bike clubs, to name a few. There are relatively few voices for utilitarian cycling.

Today we have a climate crisis, global warming caused by the burning of fossil fuels. We created the greenhouse gas emissions that produced climate change, now we can help "un-create" it simply by riding a bike. It may be a bit of a stretch for most, but according to the IPCC report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) that appeared in 2018 in Forbes Magazine. BIKE SATURDAYS is our signature event. It’s not a race or other form of competition. It’s promoted to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take responsibility for their own health and to provide information about the need to develop serious and safe biking infrastructure. There are estimated 14M families and individuals who own bikes, but rarely ride them because they are part of the majority who feel it’s unsafe to ride city streets.
